Niche Social Media Platforms and their benefits.
As unique individuals, we all form part of groups that interest us in different ways. There are several online platforms that are useful for said people when fulfilling different needs. Get Community defines the term as follows, “Niche social networks target a select segment of the population. It’s something that Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter can no longer do successfully because they’ve all grown so large. These niche networks allow users to connect with like-minded individuals who share the same interests and hobbies (Emily, 2020).
Niche platforms allow like-minded people to share ideas and form a community where they can be vocal about similar topics. As stated in a Forbes article, “… people can receive specific and targeted content on a daily basis and, even more importantly, connect with people who share the same interests. This relevant connection makes it easier to bond with others and form new friendships, relationships, or even business partnerships” (Koksal, 2019).
A few of the benefits that niche platforms offer include specific target groups,
less competition, higher organic reach, and lower ad costs. Said benefits are not only positive for the users but also for the website’s overall success.
To discuss a niche platform that was extremely useful for me, I would like to talk about a website called Diggz.
This website is a roommate matching source for individuals moving to a new city. I find this niche platform different than other similar applications because they focus on a match system that allows people to chat once they mutually like each other’s profiles. The website allows users to filter their selection by gender, age, apartment price range, location, and so on. Moving to a new city is an overwhelming process; therefore, being able to find like-minded individuals to live with was really beneficial. In fact, I was able to meet someone in person in South Florida prior to beginning my apartment search in NYC.
To conclude, niche platforms play an important role amongst social media platforms. Although they may not be as well-known as the giants in the field, niche platforms serve different people in different ways and are profitable websites.
